CLOTHING IN THE PAST
WAS NO BLAST

What clothing did kids wear
In times so long ago,
On steaming, sunny summer days,
On winter days with snow ?

Long skirts with heavy folds,
Tight collars, waists and cuffs,
Thick stockings, pantaloons and boots,
And necks with rigid ruffs.

Locked in, from head to toe,
And weighted down, to boot,
So how could kids all run and play
And jump and dance and hoot ?

Today's kids are more free
With trousers, tops and caps,
So soft and light, so fun and loose,
For girls and little chaps.

What clothing do you like ?
What clothing do you not ?
Your clothing, is it all homemade ?
Your clothing is store-bought ?

Some kids like fancy clothes,
Or like to play "dress up,"
Some want to wear just jeans and tops
That they're free to mess up.

For me, it's sweatshirts, soft and warm,
No suits or gowns or heels.
I'll pick a T-shirt any day -
I care how clothing feels.

I've pictures on my clothes
That match the way I feel.
They're colorful and fun to see;
I wear them all with zeal !
