The earth spins 'round and 'round and 'round,
It rotates once a day,
And travels 'round the sun, as well.
It journeys, come what may.
It takes one year to travel all
The way around the sun,
Then start anew its endless path
Through space - it's never done !
We measure time by orbits run,
And say each makes a year,
But - how to measure when it starts
Or ends - that isn't clear !
So New Year's Day is not the same
Wherever you may go.
Each culture marks it its own way,
And celebrates it so.
For many, January first
Begins a brand new year.
The Jewish calendar begins,
Not till September's here.
Now, Chinese New Year ties right in
To phases of the moon.
From January, it will start
The day of the new moon.
The celebrations run until
The full moon comes to call,
Which brings the Lantern Festival -
That's fifteen days, in all !
And years are named for animals,
With twelve to cycle through,
From rats to tigers, snakes and pigs,
Plus roosters, dragons, too !
If you've a mind to celebrate
At Chinese New Year time,
Then try our shop for gifts and clothes,
Once you have read this rhyme.
We've T-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and more
For kids and mom and dad,
Plus baby clothes and toddler tees -
They're sure to make you glad.
Our neat designs, so colorful,
Will fill you with good cheer,
Pagodas proud and hearts that sing,
"I Love Chinese New Year !"
