Here are 10 ways characters from your favorite
children's stories can come to life through WORDS.

1.  Children's stories can come to life if you pick your favorite story characters and write
      biographies for them or create timelines of special events in the characters' lives.
2    Make children's stories spring to life by making lists of your favorite characters' best
      and worst qualities: are they kind ? gentle ? brave ? loyal ? 
3    Children's stories have wonderful writing. Make a list of your favorite things that are
      said by your favorite characters, or great quotes from their books.
4.   Pick characters from children's stories you love and imagine you've found their diaries.
      Write diary entries for the events in their lives showing their reactions to people and
      events. 
5.   Find children's stories that have two great characters in them. You and your best friend 
      can each pretend to be one of the characters and pretend you're pen pals. Write letters
      back and forth to each other, as if you are those characters. What if the characters from
      two different children's stories met ?
6.  Take your favorite children's story characters and imagine what their dreams are like
      when they sleep. Write them down.
7.  Choose great children's stories and make up your own prequels (what happens
      BEFORE the real stories begin), write and illustrate your own versions of the stories 
      themselves, or invent your own sequels (what happens AFTER the real stories end). 
8.  Children's stories take place in particular places and times (for example, in England in
      the 1800s or in China many centuries ago). Imagine that your favorite characters were
      born in different times or places. How would the characters or the stories be different ?
9.  Pick children's stories that take place in the past. If the characters were alive today,
      how would they react to current world events or problems like pollution ?
10.Think of your favorite children's stories. Imagine that you are a NEW character in one
      of them and write scenes from the story including YOURSELF in the action.

remember that the authors of the original stories work very hard to create their special
magic for you and only they have the right to publish stories and other things about the
