You've learned a lot in school,
And that's been pretty cool.
Another school year's done
And now it's time for fun !
For summertime is here,
And there's no need to fear.
There'll be so much to do,
But what ? That's up to you !
With jump ropes, skating, too,
And baseball games for you,
Plus time for reading books,
And sharing friendly looks,
For playing with your friends,
For tying up loose ends,
For snuggling with your cat,
For doing this and that,
For playing with your dog,
And going for a jog,
For writing stories down,
For shopping trips downtown,
For making lots of art,
For opening your heart
To people old and new
Who share the world with you,
For time with family
And work for charity,
For brushing up your math,
For lazing in the bath,
For special summer trips
And making funny quips,
Or for a part-time job
And sweet corn on the cob,
For cuddling your pets,
For cooking crêpe suzettes,
For learning special skills
With hammers, nails and drills,
And gardening for hours
And growing pretty flowers,
Avoiding bees that sting,
And finding songs to sing.
You'll jump and skip and run,
And play out in the sun.
Try drinking lemonade,
While lying in the shade.
There's time to do so much:
For treasure hunts and such,
For watching saturn's rings,
For scientific things,
|
Obscure experiments,
Or camping out in tents,
For nature hikes and climbs,
For writing silly rhymes,
For helping 'round the house,
For feeding your pet mouse,
For picnics in the park,
For moonlight in the dark,
A firefly that glows,
And smelling a pink rose,
For bicycling all day,
For raking up the hay,
For working with a hoe,
And lots of lawns to mow,
For acrobatic tricks,
For doggies fetching sticks,
For dancing on your toes,
Creating puppet shows,
For watching some TV,
For swimming in the sea,
And castles in the sand,
Or lend a helping hand.
To anyone in need,
You'll be a friend, indeed.
For learning how to knit,
Or sewing clothes that fit,
For watermelon rinds,
For great flea market finds,
For puzzles, chess and games,
For stroking horses' manes,
For visiting new towns,
Museums' ups and downs,
And grand historic sites,
Or flying pretty kites,
For helping those you love,
Or caring for a dove,
Bird feeders for a finch,
And growing one whole inch,
With projects here and there,
And still with time to spare,
There'll be such fun galore
And so much more in store.
Have fun with all of these,
And build some memories.
Don't waste a single day.
Enjoy what comes your way.
We hope you like our rhyme,
So, "HAPPY SUMMERTIME !"
