ABOUT THE ARTIST

I'm Barbara Freedman-De Vito. I have been creating artwork
since I was a child and I have a degree in Fine Arts. Over the years
I have illustrated stories, created artwork for library and museum
promotional materials and for animal rights organizations, made
costumes, props and artwork for my storytelling and puppetry
performances, and developed educational materials. 

I have also created and conducted workshops for children and
for university students, teachers and librarians on the arts of
storytelling, puppetry and the creation of handmade props and
have led art, humane education and environmental awareness
workshops for children.

ABOUT THE BABY BIRD

Baby Bird Productions Fine Arts is operated by myself and my
husband, Bob. For several years Bob worked with the Society for
the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, helping to promote the adoption
of abandoned pets and doing animal rescue work. At home we did
wildlife rehabilitation work, hand-raising many orphaned or injured
birds, squirrels and opossums for later release into the wild.

Our sites are dedicated to the memory of Bucky, a  pigeon who was
was found as an orhaned baby bird. As we had done with scores of 
other orphaned birds, we took care of him until he was old enough to 
survive on his own. We planned to release him when he was able to 
fly.


            

Sadly, he never reached that point, as a defective wing prevented 
him from flying, although he was healthy in every other way. 
Unable to survive on his own, he spent his life with us,  in our home.
He lived with us in three different states of the U.S.A., and also in
Europe, before his death in 1996.

He was a loving friend, always ready for affection, and always 
playful. He brought joy to our lives and we miss him. We have
named our sites after him and he is the "Baby Bird" in our  
company name.
